DP World Southampton Upgrades and Expands Empty Container Handling Fleet

DP World Southampton has invested over £500,000 to upgrade and expand its empty container handling equipment with an order for eight CSV Ferrari UK empty container handlers.  The first machine will become operational during December 2008 with the other machines being phased into operations during Q1 of 2009.

Each machine, once fully commissioned, will be able to lift containers up to 9 tonnes in weight and will have the ability to stack to a height of seven 9’6” containers.

Talking about the investment, Steve McCrindle, Operations Manager, DP World Southampton, said:

“We are continually investing in new terminal equipment to ensure that we are able to deliver a fast and efficient service to our customers and empty container handling is a key part of that service.

The new machines have ergonomically designed cabs which have easy to see and operate controls as they are spread around the driver.  The overall visibility from the cab is good as well as being a very comfortable drive.”
