DP World Southampton Lifts into Action with Two New Cranes

Two new super post-panamax cranes on the quaysideDP World Southampton marked the commissioning of its two new super post-panamax gantry cranes on Friday 11 July 2008 with an event on Southampton Water.  Representatives from the terminal were joined by other key stakeholders to see the two new cranes in action.

The two new super post-panamax cranes are the first of their kind to be in operation at the terminal, are capable of reaching across 22 containers and represent significant investment.

Campbell Mason, Managing Director, DP World Southampton, said:

“It’s great to have so many representatives from across the industry, both up and down the supply chain, joining us to mark this significant milestone in the terminal’s history.  These two new cranes are the first super post-panamax cranes to be delivered into operation and reflect our commitment to invest in new equipment as we continue to improve the service to our customers.”

Andy Piatek initiates pyrotechnics with Campbell Mason

Andy Piatek, Director - Purchasing & Logistics, Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd, added:

“DP World Southampton plays an integral role in our supply chain needed to move parts manufactured in the Far East to our car manufacturing plant in Swindon.  It’s great to see DP World Southampton investing in the latest equipment and technology to increase their operational capability.  We look forward to continuing our relationship and watching the terminal grow in the years ahead.”
