DP World Southampton Deploys 8 High Machines
These new machines have the ability to block stack empty containers up to eight high whereas previous machinery could only stack up to six high. Through this investment programme the capacity of the empty park has increased by more than 15%. Talking about the new machines, Steve McCrindle, Operations Manager, DP World Southampton, said: “It is great to see the expanded empty container handling fleet operational in the empty park and even better to see boxes being stacked in the eight high position. With an increased number of machines working, we are able to offer a fast and efficient service to our customers when returning empty containers to the terminal.” The first boxes to be placed in the eight high position were lifted by the ECH drivers in C Team who were working the night shift on the 2 April 2009.
