The completed third crane railCivil engineering works to extend the terminal’s third crane rail have been completed three weeks ahead of the schedule with the original timetable for completion being the beginning of August.

The works involved the construction of an additional 195 metres of reinforced concrete crane beam which has allowed the third crane rail to be extended to a total length of 695 metres and as such enables the terminal’s super post-panamax cranes to work on vessels on berths 205, 206 and now 207.

Talking about finishing ahead of schedule, David Holt, Engineering Projects Manager, DP World Southampton, said:

“It is thanks to everyone’s hard work, determination and close cooperation throughout the entire project that we have been able to finish ahead of the schedule.  We now look forward to seeing our latest super post-panamax cranes operating on the new rail.”

We now look forward to seeing the new rail in use in the near future.”

Other civil works that have been completed include the installation of storm anchor blocks for the terminal’s latest super post-panamax cranes.  Work on new drainage with oil separators to further enhance the environmental protection being provided to the River Test is continuing on schedule and will be complete by the end of the year.
