DP World Southampton Ploughs on Through the Snow
With almost two inches of snow over the terminal surface and on the tops of containers, you could be forgiven for thinking you were at a terminal in Canada or Russia. During the unusually cold spell, 20 tonnes of grit were deployed across the 220 acre site with the terminal’s shipside operations being affected for less than seven hours and landside operations continuing throughout albeit restricted during some periods. Brendan Bilston, Head of Operations, DP World Southampton, said: “Having just joined terminal from the sunny climate in Australia, snow was the last thought on my mind! I was told it doesn't get that cold here. However that aside, I’m pleased to say that from an operational point of view we were able to keep operating throughout the snow, sleet and hail showers with minimal disruption to our customers and hauliers.”
