With over 53 submissions put forward from around the DP World group of terminals, the competition was hard but DP World Southampton managed to gain recognition ‘on the podium’ three times.

In the Safety Excellence Team Award the terminal achieved first place (tied) for the straddle carrier stability alarms initiative – the team was made up from representatives from operations, engineering, systems and training.

In the same category, Safety Excellence Team Award, the terminal achieved second place for its Safety Matters newsletter – the team involved in the newsletter included representatives from the terminal’s Safety Committee, Safety and Marketing & Communications Departments.

In the Green Challenge Award the terminal achieved third place for a hi-mast lighting project developed by a team made up of representatives from the Engineering and Finance Departments.

Talking about the terminal’s success, Campbell Mason, DP World Southampton, said:

“Improving safety and minimising our impact on the environment are critically important objectives and it is particularly pleasing to see group-wide recognition of our efforts in this area.

The challenge for 2009 will be to see if we can do even better!”
