DP World Southampton Welcomes New Feeder Service
Feederlink has incorporated a Southampton call into its weekly shipping schedule, with the maiden call of Komet III on Tuesday 6 October 2009. The East Coast service, linking Southampton with Grangemouth and South Shields, takes the number of feeder services at DP World Southampton up to five, with the other four operated by X-Press Container Line. Feederlink provides high-frequency scheduled services between the deep-sea hub ports of Northern Europe, such as Rotterdam, and UK ports on the North Sea and, now with Southampton, on the South Coast. Campbell Mason, Managing Director, DP World Southampton, said: “We warmly welcome Feederlink, which is one of Europe’s leading container feeder operators, as an important new customer and as the operator of a new service which will enhance the options for cargo flows to connect with the deep-sea services calling at Southampton.
There are many benefits to feedering, particularly the environmental ones. This weekly service will provide our deep-sea customers with a real and reliable alternative to road and rail. The service will also provide customers in the North East of England with easier access to their import cargoes from Asia.” Harry Kleipas, Managing Director, Feederlink, said: “We are delighted to have established a new feeder connection with DP World Southampton, adding to our portfolio of call ports.
The container port, with its strategic location, high standards of service and efficient turnarounds, provides us with a superb connection for our feeder services to Grangemouth and South Shields.
Southampton will play a key role in helping us to link the needs of the deep-sea lines, logistics providers and their customers through the provision of reliable feeder connections.” Feederlink’s first call was on Tuesday 6 October 2009, with a port rotation of Southampton – South Shields – Grangemouth – Southampton.
