Third Crane Rail Progress Update

Civil works being carried out to complete third crane rail projectEngineering works continue to progress well on the extension of the terminal’s third crane rail with around 360 of the planned 380 metres of rail complete which equates to around 95%.

The works are scheduled to be completed at the start of April and will ensure that the terminal’s new breed of super post-panamax cranes each with a gauge of 35 metres is able to work on 80% of the quayside.

Talking about the project, Brendan Bilston, Head of Operations comments:  “Having the flexibility to utilise the super post-panamax cranes on all four berths is a big plus for us from an operational point of view and enhances our ability to service our customers’ ever larger vessels.

The terminal’s super post-panamax crane fleet have the ability to reach over vessels 22 containers wide which means we are well placed to meet the needs of the industry trend towards mega vessels.”
