Trialling the Way Forward at DP World SouthamptonDP World Southampton is in the process of upgrading its existing terminal operating system to Navis SPARCS. The current system has done the terminal proud for the last 25 years but now is the time to move forward with new technology. The final part of testing the new system is to undertake trials in a live environment. To date, the terminal has completed four live trials, initially trialling the landside functionality followed by both the landside and shipside functionality for a few hours at a time. The latest trial on 10 May was the first time that the landside and shipside functionality was tested for a 12 hour shift. Talking about the live trials, Brian Thomson, Systems Manager, DP World Southampton, said: “We carry out a vast amount of detailed scenario testing of the system in the development environment, but the live trials are an excellent way of proving that everything works as it should in the live environment.”
Steve McCrindle, Operations Manager, DP World Southampton, said: “The live trials have been vital not only in final proving of the system but also in helping the users to get to grips with a new system in a live environment.”
“We would like to thank all of the users of the terminal for their support during these trials.”
