NVQ Stevedoring Success at DP World Southampton

Training and development is an important part of life at DP World Southampton and during recent months a number of employees at the terminal have been working hard towards an NVQ in Stevedoring.

Operational Training Supervisors Paul Lawrence and Jon White have been successful in completing an NVQ in Stevedoring with the assistance of Pete Silsbury, the terminal’s Training Coordinator and the Port of Blyth, Northumberland.  Pete himself has also been a student and achieved NVQ assessor status, which will enable him to assess future students.

Ben Gregson, James Francis and Neil Allen of South Coast Port Services (SCPS), DP World Southampton’s contracted labour force, have also achieved the NVQ in Stevedoring.  Ben and Tony Finlay have achieved NVQ assessor status.

Talking about the qualification and why it’s important to the business, Pete said:  “The aim of the NVQ qualification is to raise standards in our training, for employees to attain a nationally recognised qualification and to help raise the profile of the company through recognising the need and importance of continued training.  Congratulations to everyone on their achievement.

In the future, we hope to see many more of our employees achieve this qualification.”

The terminal’s Managing Director, Chris Lewis and Peter Drake, SCPS’ Operations Director watched as the successful students were presented with their certificates of achievement by Colin Bassam, Training Manager at the Port of Blyth.
